How to Access the VRE
Initial steps
The VRE is free to use and open to all heritage science and conservation researchers. Access and use is granted through an application process and is administered as part of a ‘project’. A project could represent the research of an individual or a team, who work within a shared project space where files can be stored and shared.
To gain access to a HSDS VRE:
- Prepare your application
Before applying, you will need to compile a completed HSDS Project Data Management Plan (DMP). This must be attached to your application, so it is worth preparing this in advance. Download a template (.docx) using the button below.
- Submit the VRE Account Creation Form
Complete and submit the VRE Account Creation Form, including your DMP. This form registers both your project and all the users who will need access.
The account creation form will serve as the primary source of project information for the STFC Hartree Centre and HSDS. In the event of any discrepancies between the account creation form and the DMP, or missing fields in the DMP, the information provided in the form will take precedence.
- Await approval and set up your account
Your application will be reviewed by the STFC Hartree Centre team. If approved, your project will be created and all project users will receive an email with instructions on how to complete their registration and account set-up.
If you have any questions about this process please contact the HSDS Virtual Desktop Managers ([email protected])
