An Introduction to Ingest
These online training sessions introduce HSDS and ADS users to Ingest, our new deposit system for archaeological and heritage data. This interactive training session will help you understand and confidently use the Ingest system. We’ll begin with an overview of what Ingest is and how it fits into the ADS and HSDS ecosystem, followed by a live step-by-step demonstration. You’ll then have the opportunity to try the system yourself with support from the facilitators. View more information or register below.

Ingest in practice
If you have completed the ‘Introduction to Ingest’ training and would like a deeper understanding of how to prepare metadata and structure multiphase projects for deposition we are offering an additional training session. This focuses on the difference between collection and file level metadata, identify when specialised formats require additional preparation, and apply efficient approaches to completing metadata at scale. You will also produce a completed metadata template for your own data ready for upload to Ingest and be able to make informed decisions about structuring multi-phased projects, including whether to use a single or staged deposit. How to deposit data with the HSDS
This training session introduces depositing heritage science data, particularly with the Heritage Science Data Service (HSDS). Through practical examples and demonstrations, the session will highlight how to prepare datasets and supporting documentation, create effective metadata, understand licensing and access requirements. We will also look at best practices for ensuring data are FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) and ready for long-term preservation and reuse within the heritage science community.

HSDS Catalogue of Services Training Session
This session is designed for organisations who currently advertise their service via the HSDS Catalogue of Services or would like to in the future. The training will provide instruction on how to set up users using the ADS/HSDS User Management Application, how to login into the HSDS Catalogue of Services and how to update the entry for your organisation. There will be time set aside to answer any questions that you might have. A recording of the session will be circulated after the event.

How to compile metadata for heritage science projects
This session we will focus on metadata for heritage science projects. We will look at the structured information used to describe, document, manage, and share data about cultural heritage objects, sites, materials, and scientific analyses performed on them. How to compile metadata, standards and controlled vocabulary will be highlighted. Along with the wider context of how metadata enables researchers, museums, and archives to find, understand, reuse, and preserve heritage-related data across institutions and disciplines.
