We are excited to announce the launch of the Harwell Heritage Network (HHN) webpages via the Help & Guidance section on the HSDS website. This new online resource, hosted through the HSDS, offers information and a point of access for the heritage community to some of the UK’s most advanced scientific facilities.
Chaired by Dr. Antonella Scherillo from ISIS and Dr. Arthur Graf from HarwellXPS, the Harwell Heritage Network aims to connect heritage researchers and simplify access to specialised scientific methods.
What the Network Offers
Via these webpages, researchers and other heritage enthusiasts can now explore a wide range of facilities, including:
- HarwellXPS, the UK’s national X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy facility
- PiFM UK (Photo induced Force Microscopy)
- Diamond Light Source, the UK’s National Synchrotron Facility
- X-ray Computed Tomography scanning facility
- Research Complex at Harwell
- ISIS Neutron and Muon Source
Each facility has its own page providing details of the techniques they offer, how they can be used by the heritage community and who to contact for more details and access. The network provides scientific assistance to help guide researchers to the most appropriate facilities and technologies for their specific needs.
Coming Soon
In the coming months, the Harwell Heritage Network pages will be updated with further information including:
- Detailed case studies
- User experience stories
- An interactive scientific assistance form

Visit the Harwell Heritage Network webpages on the HSDS website to learn more about these world-class research capabilities. Follow the Harwell Heritage Network on LinkedIn for more information and further updates.
Further updates to the Help & Guidance pages will take place in 2026 including access to training resources!
