Coming Soon: The HSDS Data Catalogue and Catalogue of Services

News

This October, the HSDS is excited to launch two new services: The Data Catalogue and The Catalogue of Services. Together they mark a significant step forward in unlocking access to both research facilities and datasets across the UK Heritage Science landscape.

Catalogue of Services

A core element of the RICHeS programme is to ensure that heritage science expertise and facilities are accessible to the wider community. The HSDS Catalogue of Services provides an easy-to-use resource allowing users to discover and access RICHeS facilities that are essential to their research.

With filters allowing resources to be categorised by Region, Organisation, Technique, and Asset Types, users will be able to quickly find and apply to use the best facility for their needs.

By opening up access to advanced scientific research facilities for the arts and humanities and beyond, this catalogue helps realise the vision of a collaborative and open UK heritage science community.

At launch this catalogue will be a work in progress. Over the next 12 months, input from contributors and user feedback will help guide further development. We welcome your feedback at [email protected]

Data Catalogue

Drawing on past experience from delivering the Unpath’d Waters Portal, the HSDS Data Catalogue aims to collate Heritage Science Data archives from across the UK, making resources and research data findable and accessible to users and easy to navigate.

The intuitive platform will allow for users to search collections by:
● What – the subject of the data resource
● When – the temporal range that the dataset is relevant to
● Where – the geographical scope of the dataset
● Publisher – the body responsible for making the resource available online
● Contributor – the person or organisation responsible for making the data available
● Resource type – a high-level classification of the subject matter, e.g. Dating,
Maritime survey, Environmental Analysis etc.

At launch, the catalogue will only contain heritage science collections held by the ADS, however, further collections from our HSDS Partners and beyond will be added in the coming months.

This curated body of data will serve as the discovery tool for UK Heritage Science, widening access to the heritage sector and beyond.
